The DeSoto Art League Invitation!

We are inviting all former members and new members to come to our Meeting on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Presbyterian Church, 212 W. Pleasant Run Road, De Soto, TX. It is our covered dish meeting and announcement of our new officers. This is our last meeting until September, 2017.

As the years have gone by….36+ to be exact, many members and friends have come and gone. At the present time, we have initiated something different at our meetings, i.e. we now do “hands on” art each month. We will have a demonstrator from time-to- time, but for now, we have been having lots of fun doing something different each month, still life, live model sketching, Alcohol ink art, etc. Some of our own members have given us “hands-on” workshops and it has been entertaining and a lot of fun. We chose to meet on Saturday afternoon because many did not want to come out at night, and those who still work were too tired to attend our meetings. We have had good results so far.

Our May meeting is traditionally our installation of officers meeting and everyone brings a covered dish to share, and you are encouraged to do so if you decide to join us. We will have a little business and more socializing at this meeting. Time to renew friendships and share what has been going on in your “art world.”

We will have our usual Annual Spring Juried Art Show beginning soon that will show at DeSoto City Hall through the summer. Entries will be accepted May 25 and 26th.  The prospectus with all the details is at http://desotoartleague.com/2017-spring-show-info/ or else contact Bryan Reynolds, Show Director at 469-337- 8367, or Mari Vega, DAL President, 469-248- 7966 for more information.

We encourage each and every one to become a part of our long lasting DAL. We are interested in recruiting art enthusiasts who are willing to help our organization to grow in numbers, and who are willing to share their ideas, talents and participation.

We hope to see you at our May meeting and look forward to your renewing your membership or if not a member, joining with us. Dues are still $30.00 for members, $9.00 for Students and $35.00 for Sponsors.

Thank you for your consideration, we look forward to seeing you on May 13 th at 2:00 P.M.

Sincerely,

Mari Vega, President, Bryan Reynolds, Show Director, and Dotty Germino, Charter Member

2017 February’s interactive session: Drawing from a live model

Several people draw and paint from a male model dressed in red vest, white shirt and slacks.

Del Wheat, VP of Programming, thought it would be a treat to bring in one of his students to work as the afternoon’s model, dressed á la Cezanne’s The Boy In The Red Vest.  Stephen did remarkably well in holding the pose and even returning to the same position after breaks.  Plenty amongst us were suitably exhausted, too, since drawing from life — especially the figure because there is less wiggle room — is mentally challenging.

We each brought in our own materials so some painted, some drew, and some even stamped!

The day was made even more special by the treat table creation by Pat Smith–so Valentine-y and sweet.  We thank the coordinator of refreshments, Maria Saenz.
