The DeSoto Art League was chartered in 1981 to serve the needs of the artists in the Community of DeSoto and surrounding areas. It has grown and now serves all the area south and southwest of Dallas. The Art League meets the last Thursday of each month (except November and December when the meetings are scheduled on other days to accommodate the holidays). The Art League does not meet during the summer months. It sponsors a prominent artist at each regular meeting to demonstrate their art, methods and techniques.
All art meduims are represented, fabric, clay, oil, water medium, the dry mediums, acrylics, sculpture and others.
Two shows are held each year. A Member's Only show is held in December and an Open Show (Open to all artists) is held in June in conjunction with DeSoto's Creekfest. In addition, mini-shows are held each month at regular meetings where members select their favorite work. The winners are displayed in the City of DeSoto Library.
The DeSoto Art League also coordinates member art exhibits which are displayed in the DeSoto city hall.

The DeSoto Art League's 2009 version of the "Member's Only Show" was a big success. The winners were: 1st Place - David Tripp; 2nd Place - Rudy Amato; 3rd Place - Joe Blanford; Honorable Mention - Sandy Reese; and Rebecca Simonfalvi won the Student Award. The show will be exhibited until January 4, 2010.
The next Art League meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Presbyterian Church located at 212 W. Pleasant Run Road in DeSoto, Texas (1 block west of Hampton Rd)
This meeting will feature a demonstration in the use of Dichroic Glass. Nan Phillips will present this program.
